Kotor is a town of rich cultural heritage and one of the best preserved mediaeval towns on the Adriatic coast. The old town of Kotor is surrounded by 4,5 km long town walls, that lead to the St. John's fortress (Tvrdava St. Giovanni) above the town on an altitude of 260m. It takes a lot of effort to climb all the way up, but you will be awarded with a literary breathtaking view over the town and the Kotor bay.
The entire old town of Kotor looks like a museum, the stone houses are covered with red roofs and on every square, even the smallest you will find a church. The old centre of Kotor was completely renovated after the earthquake in 1979, which severely damaged the city that is also the reason why the city looks so neat and relatively new. Kotor, that has been on the Unesco list of cultural heritage since 1979, is also a favourite destination of many Mediterranean cruise ships.
Kotor is mainly a town to visit, you will spend a couple of hours to see all the sights and to have lunch or dinner. There are several quality hotels in the old centre of Kotor, or in the nearby town of Prcanj. In Prcanj you will also find some beaches however due to its position the sun goes down early.
