Sveti Stefan
(ca. 15 min. drive from Budva)
Sveti Stefan is absolutely one of the most breathtaking spots in Montenegro. The whole peninsula of Sveti Stefan actually is a hotel. The peninsula of Sveti Stefan used to be a fishermen's village, a fortress encircled with walls to protect the inhabitants from invasions. In the 1960's someone had the unique idea to turn the stone houses on the peninsula into a hotel with luxury rooms and villas. Until the 1990's many world famous celebrities have spend their vacation in the hotel on Sv. Stefan, like Elisabeth Taylor, Sofia Loren, Russian astronaut Yuri Gagarin, Sylvester Stallone, Kirk Douglas, Claudia Schiffer, princess Margaret and many others.
The Sveti Stefan peninsula has recently been taken into concession by the company Aman resorts. Aman resorts, who only have world's most luxury holiday resorts in their portfolio, are completely renovating the peninsula and will return the old glory to Sveti Stefan.
Unfortunately the Sveti Stefan hotel is now closed for the public, and you can admire it only from the causeway or from the sea. On the other hand you can see it from the see, so have an active sightseeing of Sveti Stefan, rent a pedal boat!
